If you are looking for a photographer for your wedding, your pets or your products, you’ve come to the wrong place. Sorry! Let’s be honest. This is a vanity project. I am not offering photography services. I am not desperate to sell prints. (But, if you like one of these images and think it might have a place in your home, do contact me.)This is a place to showcase a hobby, the product of a lifelong ambition. My first contact with a camera happened when I was two, maybe three, years old. I found one of these in a cupboard. It was mysterious and, therefore, fascinating. By peering through a little orange hole at the back I could see a flash of light every time I moved the lever on the side. What was this for? To find out, I dismantled the box (I was that kind of child). It was surprisingly empty, which only added to the mystery. Eventually, I did have other cameras to play with. But I did not really have the time or money to indulge myself in photography until I retired. My intention was to pursue analogue photography – I’d had plenty of time playing with computers at work. However, that quickly changed. My wife died. I wanted to put on an exhibition to raise money for a cancer charity and I realised I would not manage that in a reasonable time using film. So I made a switch to digital. I still use film cameras – another reason for working slowly, which might be represented here eventually. Not much later another passion from my early years reasserted itself and I started photographing the night sky. Technical developments have made it much easier than it used to be but it still requires enormous patience and perseverance. I love it! Finally, decreasing mobility made me switch focus to macro subjects and scenes that require imagination rather than travelling. And that’s how an inquisitive, arguably destructive two-year-old comes to be here. It only took three quarters of a century!
